Schaumburg, IL

187,000 Square Feet
Fully Adhered, Single-Ply (EPDM)

In 1997, Olsson was awarded the project of installing a new roof system on IKEA's newest retail store in Schaumburg, Ill. The store is the largest to be constructed by IKEA outside the Netherlands. The roof system we installed consisted of two layers of 2.1" polyisocyanurate insulation and was upgraded to a fully adhered system with .060 mil single-ply (EPDM) membrane. By installing enough insulation to obtain an R-value of 30.0, Olsson gave IKEA the opportunity to keep heating and cooling costs to a minimum as well as giving them a high-quality installation that will last for many years.

The building was designed around a 30 year lifecycle, so the roof system IKEA wanted had to be long-lasting and meet FM approval ratings for wind uplift. Using a .060 mil single-ply (EPDM) membrane, fully adhered to the mechanically fastened insulation, Olsson installed one of the most durable and highest quality roof systems available.
